Ok, so I tested it on my system now that I can get back into the lab.
Mac OS X 10.6.8 / LabVIEW 8.5.1 / VISA 5.20
I see the exact same problem. And it seems to be a VISA thing. This does not appear to be driver related. Not sure why but it is some sort of unexpected feature of VISA? Not sure why \FF shows up as two characters in the bytes at serial port functionality.
